LONDON IRISH 'COACH THE COACHES'
London Irish coaching staff will be paying a special trip to Andover Rugby Club next Thursday, 8 July, from 6.30pm. The purpose of the visit is to hold a 'Coach the Coaches' session, and the coaches of all the youth teams will be participating, from Under 8s to Under 16s.
The team of three London Irish coaches will be co-ordinated by London Irish Head of Community Coaching, Mark Tyrell. The coaches will be taught new drills in preparation for the new season, and will be left kit and coaching plans.
Andover RFC is one of London Irish's local partner clubs. The club has regularly held trips to the Madejski Stadium over the last few seasons, with the youth teams participating in pre-match coaching clinics.
Plans are already underway to strengthen the relationship for next season, Andover's Under 8s and Under 9s are participating in the London Double Head Tag Festival on the morning on Saturday, 4 September. The winning teams at the festival will play at Twickenham Stadium later in the day before the London Irish vs. Harlequins and the Saracens vs. London Wasps matches.
Mark Tyrell comments; "If you can get the right coaching system in place, fantastic players can develop through junior rugby. Andover already have a great set up, and we're pleased to help them to develop their coaching techniques to achieve even better results."
